bubble dress, take 2!

We moved to Carlsbad, CA when Pearce was just 3 weeks old. That move was pretty rough. I was still recovering from an emergency c-section, and trying to finish packing our little apartment, while Jeremy was still commuting 2 hours each way to/from work. Pearce was brand new and going through a constipation/screaming phase. I was nervous about motherhood, Jeremy's new job, meeting new friends and getting to know a new area, even though it was just an hour south of all our friends and familiarities of Huntington Beach, CA. It was all such a big huge change in my life, and all at once. I went from living in the same city for 6 years,  hanging out with friends almost every weekend that became like extended family to us, and 6+ years of a pretty stressful career in marketing. (But let's face it, I think everything is stressful...runs in my family.)

And all of a sudden, my life was completely different. (Side note: Little did I know at that time, that about 6 months later we would be packing up and moving again for an even bigger life change.)

I soon met a great friend, Elise, in our new ward. She was pregnant with her first, and new to the "stay-at-home" mom life, and also was new to sewing. She'd bring her sewing machine over to our place, and we'd chat and try to figure out our sewing machines. (And it makes me so happy that me and Elise are still friends and currently in a virtual quilting bee together!) We found this cute little quilting/fabric store in downtown Oceanside. They had tons of Anna Maria Horner fabrics, which are my favorites! And at the time they had the brand new voile line that had just come out. This little store and fabric made me so happy! They had this very same dress on display, same pattern, same fabric, and same size (2). And I made it my goal over 18 months ago that I was gonna make that pretty dress one day! And here it is! I LOVE IT!

Awwww! So nice! I honestly think that we were just meant to be friends - both moved into a new ward at the same time, same stage of life, same interests... I have yet to make another friend in our ward that I have much in common with, who I also get along with as naturally & easily as I did you. There have been countless times over the last year+ that I have wished we could just hang out/sew/eat yummy things together, instead of me always solo.

In other sad news....Maisonette isn't selling fabric any more! They are just a children's clothing line now. I went to the shop the other day (totally not knowing...I follow their blog & they didn't say anything about it) & my heart sank when I saw that is was dark & there was just a sign on the door with their studio hours. I am seriously SO sad because it was the only place anywhere near here to get cute designer fabrics.

Let's end this comment on a happy note, shall we? Pearce - adorable, as always. The dress - AMAZING! I love it!!! You have serious skills.

Emily you are amazing! I LOVE that cute little bubble dress! You are such a great seamstress!

I love the background of the story. I'm sure it makes you wish for warmth & sunshine when thinking back to CA...so glad you're here though!

So many changes, all at once! Having a good friend or two makes all the difference, don't you think?

Pearce's dress turned out beautifully! She looks like a little California girl in the middle of a Cle Elum winter. I ordered the Music Box pattern yesterday, now it's time to find some fabric. I'm hoping you'll help me through the button holes!

Oh my gosh this is SOOO cute! You did a great job, it's really darling. It makes me want to break out my sewing machine lately! (IT's been collecting some serious dust!) But let's be honest... I just sew small things.. I'm not really a good "follow the pattern" type of girl. Patterns freak me out and I've never attempted clothes really.. But maybe I should it looks fun!

P.s. I'm so sorry to hear about your camera accident! That totally stinks, ugh!! Hang in there:)
