OH BOY was this a great weekend!! Usually when Jeremy is out of town I am lonely/bored/etc, but this weekend was great timing because my lil sibs told me about a Crawfish Boil at Boudreaux's Bistro in Payson, UT. (**he was in Moab this weekend because his dad is still there for one more week, and we didn't get to do any trails when we were there Easter weekend, so he of course had to go back one last time before his dad leaves.**)
Every spring (crawfish season) I get so incredibly homesick, especially for Jazz Fest, Crawfish, and maybe even Mardi Gras. It's been several years since I was home in the spring, and have been dying for crawfish!!! So I bought an all-you-can-eat ticket and drove an hour down south and got every penny worth! The seasoned it perfectly, not too spicy, because even though I'm half cajun, I'm a total wimp when it comes to spicy.
Pearce drinking her pink lemonade. Her cheeks were so rosy by the time we finally got there. Side note, we had to drive the jeep down, (with no A/C) windows cracked on one of the hottest days yet. (Jeremy took my Honda to Moab to save on gas $ and to get there faster. He rode in his dad's buggy so didn't need the jeep.) It is actually really cute seeing Pearce ride in daddy's jeep because she loves it, and everytime most of the time she is happy as a clam and swinging her feet with a big grin on her face.
These guys really did put on a good crawfish boil, I hope they do one more this season, so Jeremy can come. Watching them dump the crawfish from the pots brings back so many memories of crawfish boils at MawMaw and PawPaws. Do you like our jeep hair?? ;-)
Cute Aunt Muffy. Aka Laura.
They said Pearce could stir the pot, even though there was just water left in it, but Pearce loves to "help" and "stir", so she was lovin' it. She thinks she "helped make the crawfish".
Alright, let's get this party started!! One (or two) more pics while my hands were still clean. Then it was serious business peeling and eating that crawfish.
Is your mouth watering yet?!?!?!?!
My little quarta' cajun!! She was a natural, and LOVED the crawfish. I couldn't peel fast enough for her and myself. She even tried peeling one herself. Dug right in!
That'a girl!!
They had a little jazz band too, which was cool (see behind us)
There's Freddie! There weren't enough seats by us, so he sat by his buddy Shane, and was nice enough to teach him how to peel.
It was lots of fun seeing a bunch of New Orleans friends who live in Utah, especially the Gruwell girls, Jessica and Eliza! They are like my little sisters. This picture is also funny to me, because you can see that I didn't even miss a beat, I was peeling/eating the entire time. Didn't stop when chatting with friends, taking pictures, holding Pearce. My crawfish time was much overdue.
Our table definitely had the biggest piles of crawfish peelings. As soon as we were done with a pile, they'd come and dump more. It was awesome. It truly was "endless" helpings.
Pearce has been really social lately. She use to be kind of shy, maybe because we didn't have much kid interaction whilenliving in the country, or maybe because she is getting older and can talk a little more. But this is the second time this week that she makes a friend with a stranger. She was dancing around and holding hands with this little girl, while the band played.
Freddie and two girls from Louisiana.
Hansen sibs.
In closing, I'll quote one of Pearce's favorite phrases right now, "YUM YUM!"

Wowee!! Makes me wish I was Cajun! hahaha That looks like so much fun! I LOVE your pictures. You always take the very best photos and capture everything perfectly. I feel like I was there.
I'm surprised Pearce wasn't afraid to touch the Crawfish. I guess she's like her mamma! :)
Loved the play-by-plays!! Too bad Jeremy wasn't there. Hope they have another one this year so he can go too!
Crawfish? I love it! Well, I can't say I love it, b/c I've never had it! But I mean I love the pictures and glad you had a good time. I need to get me some crawfish! What does it taste like? When we lived in Boston we went to Maine a few times and had THE best crab and lobster, which I love. Does it taste like that? Hmmm I'll have to try.... Crawfish in Utah. Who knew? hahaha. You learn something everyday. LOL.
Allegra, if you like crab and lobster, then i think you just might like crawfish too!! I like crawfish better than lobster, because it's not as tough, and i think it has a creamier flavor. But really, i have no idea how to describe the taste, but it is somewhat simliar to crab/lobster. BUT a lot messier!!
I love Gelana too!!! But, I think she's leaving for a mission soon. She really is like family...all those sweet Stovalls and Gruwells!!!
I wish we could have been there. But, we took care of our crawfish cravings last week. It was such a treat to have Amy with us.
yum, yum indeed!!! super jel. super. i wish i still lived in utah right now! hahahaha. who woulda thunk it?? all you can eat crawfish in payson. hahahahahaha. i loved seeing all the pics. that last one of all of you is my fave. i wish all the hansen sibs could have been out there for that photo op.
and p.s. sophie ALWAYS makes friends with RANDOM kids at places we go -- just ask amy. mcdonald's playland, the park, the mall. it's hilarious.
That was so funny how pearce started dancing with that girl. Hopefully she was all partied out and konked out on the ride home.
Okay. I love this!! I love that you love and embrace your heritage. It makes me so happy! All these pictures are so awesome. And I love your shirt! I actually almost bought it, too, but I thought...is it weird to have sailboats on my shirt? So I passed. Now, I am kicking myself i didn't get it, because it looks SO cute on! Not weird at all.
Also. I am loving all your posts and read them on my phone in the middle of the night,. but never comment, because it is such a pain on the iPhone. But I feel like a slacker friend. So know that I am reading & have all these things I want to say! haha. I also have three draft emails to you in response to comments you have left me. Maybe one day I will get around to actually finishing them. Like when Lincoln is five. ahaha
ELISE!!! don't you worry for one little second about being a slacker friend! you have a NEWBORN!!! And I totally know what you mean about it being a pain to comment using the iphone. I try and save commenting for when i'm on the laptop.
it's funny you say that about the sailboat shirt, b/c i was kinda thinking the same thing. it sat in my closet for a while, and i finally said, to heck with it! i'm wearing it! b/c i always end up wearing t-shirts, and i'm sick of it, and want to try wearing non t-shirt shirts.
as mom always says -- "you never know till you try it on!" hahahahaha. i can't tell you how many times i have repeated that. both to my kids and to myself. hahaha.
