Antarctica

Nah- I'm just kidding. It's a place called Antelope Island. And it's in the middle of The Great Salt Lake. It kinda felt like we were in an isolated place like Antarctica at first, since it's surrounded by snowy mountains and frozen lakes for miles and we didn't see very many people around at first.

We've been couped up in the house for weeks now, and I just needed some different scenery. This winter weather has been dragging... And a huge bonus, Jeremy got President's Day off! So we made a little family road trip - just a little over an hour north of SLC. I was hoping it would be a fun outing, since Jeremy seemed a bit skeptical and I'm sure would have loved to rest on his day off, since we are both pretty exhausted these days with lots of interrupted sleep. BUT, thank heavens! It was fun! It was really great to GET OUT and get fresh air and let Pearce run around. And the scenery was breath-taking. We will definitely go back in the spring or summer when it is warmer and there is a beach with sand, instead of all snow and ice.

I packed a picnic thinking we could possible find a place to sit, but all of the tables were covered in snow. So we just ended up driving around the island and eating in the car instead. The whole car still smells like GARLIC, I put WAY too many garlic cloves in some guacamole-- like 3 (yikes, maybe 4!!) with 2 avocados. whoops! Learned my lesson -- easy on the garlic.

We saw 2 very large buffalo close to the water as we drove along the path. Very cool. And we saw 2 beautiful owls in a small forest. Very cool. And we saw some peeps riding horses, which looked really fun. At the end of the path was a Ranch House, with some history and tour guide stuff that I don't pay much attention to, or read. It was just fun to walk around and explore with Pearce. She went into the big barn with Jeremy. And she went into the ranch house with me and played "house" for a bit.

You probably can't see in the right picture below, but Jeremy and Pearce are looking up at the 2 owls in the top of the tree. They were camouflaged pretty good.

That bell was pretty loud. Classic Pearce face covering her ears. She does similar when Henry cries too. :-)

Happy, good day. I think we definitely need to get out more.

And yes, Henry was with us, too! He slept the whole time, except when we were leaving and he was hungry. Too bad all we have is this phone photo.
